Lineart for Beginners

Lineart is basically the bare outline of your artwork. Lineart can be drawn from imagination or by tracing images. Be careful what images you use because you could violate someone's copyright. Personal photos or free clipart would be your best choice for tracing. Never trace someone's artwork. This is a huge no no in the dolling/pixel art community.

Creating lineart for pixel art takes a little more patients. There shouldn't be any stray pixels, dithering etc. Pixeled lineart should usually be 1 pixel thick. See the following examples of creating a smooth curve. (Images are zoomed in 400%)

 

Remember practice makes perfect. That's how we learn. So, grab your favorite paint program and start some lineart. :)
